Terms of use

Anyone can read what's published here; you don't need an account. Articles belong to the people who wrote them. Quote them with credit, but please don't republish one in full without asking the author first.

We issue author accounts by hand; there's no public sign-up yet. Keep your password to yourself, and know that anything published from your account is your responsibility. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has got in.

Too many failed sign-ins will lock an account for a while. That's deliberate, and it clears on its own.

You keep full ownership of your articles and images. Publishing gives Fernwrite a non-exclusive licence to store and show that work on the site: enough to run it, and nothing more. Delete an article and the licence ends with it.

You confirm that what you publish is yours to publish. Do not post:

• work that infringes someone else’s copyright
• anything unlawful, or that harasses or threatens a person
• private information about someone who hasn’t agreed to it
• malware, or anything built to attack readers or the site
• bulk automated posting or spam

We may take down content that breaks these terms and suspend the account behind it. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why first.

The site is provided as is. We work to keep it up and your writing safe, but we can't promise it will never go down or that nothing will ever be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you'd hate to lose.

So far as the law allows, Fernwrite isn't liable for indirect or consequential loss from your use of the site. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
